Waco UPF-7. Scale model biplane for control line. Wing area 409 sq in.
Quote: "Your Waco is an exact scale version of the famous Waco UPF-7 commercial touring and stunting biplane. During the war the Army used this versatile ship as a primary trainer known as the PT-14.
Two years of hard flying and testing went into the designing and planning of this control line model. Construction is simplified but realistic scale appearance has been maintained. Hardwoods are used at points of great stress to keep the Waco light in weight but extremely rugged. Fabric covering is used just as in the big ship for strength and durability.
Follow these step by step instructions to save time and build a more accurate scale model. Take the time necessary to study the photographs and many diagramatic sketches on the plans. They show details that words alone cannot convey. Learn the parts and procedure thoroughly before starting the actual construction. You will find many new construction methods and ideas that are the result of designing and building over 175 control line models.
Procedure. When building up a section over the plans it is advisable to use a piece of was paper between the plans and the work. When cementing the hardwoods it is advisable to pis the joint together to obtain maximum strength. Hardwood joints take longer to dry than balsa joints. Binding joints with thread and a liberal coating of cement adds greatly to Joint's strength where severe stress may occur.
Step Number One. Photograph 1 shows the construction of the two basic sides. Build up over the plans by pinning down 3/16 longerons over the side view of the plans. Cut the uprights to length, cement and pin all Joints with 1/2 in pins. Let each side dry for two hours before mov-ing. While sides are drying cut out printed sheet parts such as formers and ribs... "

I just inherited this plane. It is all put together and it is in pristine shape for being over 70 years old. It has never been flown. I also have the M5 motor that has been run. I also have the original box with the original plans to build the plane.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
