Sky Master (oz982)
About this Plan
Sky Master. Free flight gas model, for .19-.25 motors.
Update 31/08/2020: Added article, thanks to RFJ.
Quote: "Sky Master is a rugged fine performing free-flight for the descriminating modeler who enjoys putting forth a little extra effort into some excellent construction. The result is a model which is a standout in appearance to equal its fine flying characteristics.
Sky Master is designed around .19 to .25 displacement for the 1959 free-flight rules. The original model was initially built and flown with Torp .19 and it flew very well. Then, the entire model was painted with hot-fuel-proof dope, as shown, to bring it up to 41 oz to meet new class B rules for Torp. 23.
Even with the new higher 1959 power loadings, the climb of the Sky Master is amazingly fast and it would be difficult to find a model that is more stable. This is one model that you can fly with pride because it is a stand-out in appearance as well as flyability.
Interested? Good! Let's get busy by drawing up the plans. You don't have to be a skilled draftsman to scale up these plans. Parts are shown full size. The balance of the plans are quarter-size and a pencil, paper, and ruler are all that are required to scale up these plans in a couple of hours or so.
CONSTRUCTION: Build the wing and tail group, first and completely cover and dope these units to let them age while building the fuselage. The wing and elevator are constructed very similarly. All ribs are cut from 3/32 sheet except the wing ribs at the dihedral breaks which are from very hard 1/8 sheet. The trailing edges of both the wing and elevator are from 1/4 x1 in strips. Tips are cut from 1/4 sheet. The leading edges are from hard stock, 5/8 x 1/2 in for the wing and 3/8 sq for the elevator..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
