About this Plan

North American OV-10A (Bronco). Control line scale twin model for 1.5 to 2.5cc engines. Scale is 1/12.

Quote: "A DESIGN contest was introduced to evolve an aircraft suitable for Counter Insurgency (COIN) operations by all the US Armed Services and the main requirements included a crew of two in tandem, two engines, STOL capability from rough airstrips, fields and carriers together with a minima of size, complexity and cost. Of the eleven designs submitted, the North American Aviation NA300 project, designated OV-10A was awarded a contract and thus initially went into prototype production.

This aircraft has a twin boom configuration and is of all metal construction. The power plants are Garrett T 76 (650 SHP) with thrust reversing Beta control. An usual innovation for mounting the external stores on the OV-1OA is the use of a sponson or stub wing.

The aircraft has a span of 30 ft. and a length of 39 ft. 3 in. and the model presented here is to 1/12 scale. Construction: commence by cementing two 1in x 1/4in trailing edge sections back to back to form the trailing edge and ensure that they are held true whilst drying, meanwhile all the ribs, formers and spars can be cut out. Note that although the spars are 29-1/2in long it is possible to cut them by dexterous manipulation of a 12 in. fret-saw frame.

Build the wing structure first, and because the spars incorporate fuselage and boom formers it is assembled inverted, packing up the leading and trailing edges with scrap balsa as required..."

    ScaleType: This (oz9618) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_Rockwell_OV-10_Bronco
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
