Swamp Box (oz9608)
About this Plan
Swamp Box. Single channel sport model for .09 - .15 power.
Quote: "The Swamp Box is a 48in sport cabin model for engines of .09 to .15 displacement (and we suppose 19's, 25's, 35's, and the booster stage of the Saturn 5 - after the hot-shots get done modifying it to suit themselves). As it stands it is powered and rigged for beginners and sport fliers who always welcome additions to the Rebel (oz5553), Mambo (oz4073), Live Wire (oz5554), Esquire (oz384) and all the other perennial work horses.
Since it is solidly constructed, an .09 must be a good one. We used a Cox engine turning a 7x4 prop (the .15 uses 9x4, 9x6, 10x4, etc). On .09 power it is difficult to get into trouble and the new flier should score a bull's-eye in calm weather or when there is gentle to moderate winds. There is nothing marginal about a .15 - the average flier who has already wet his feet in Rudder probably will prefer such power. Beyond the .15 the normal climb and nose-up tendency of the cabin model means a competitive style of flying with reliable three-position throttle a must..."

First two photos show my original Swamp Box built in 1971 [pics 003, 004]. It had a SuperTigre 2.5 cc and O.S. Pixie R/C system for pulse rudder and cyclic three position throttle. It was a fine flyer despite the very unreliable R/C system. It was lost and retrieved several times, and actually lived long enough to succumb to fuel rot.The next three photos [005-007] show my 1/2 size balsa & tissue micro R/C version built many years later - with rudder & elevator control, brushed gearmotor and dummy I/C engine (no muffler!). Also a fine flyer - indoors & out.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
