Mystere (oz9593)
About this Plan
Mystere. Control line stunt model, for .40 - .45 engine.
Quote: "The Mystere presented here is the result of a good many tries over the past few years to design an aircraft with good lines and good performance. It was always in the back of my mind but never showed up until the building of the Mystere. It has a personality of its own yet you feel that you have seen it somewhere before, this is one reason for the selection of the name, Mystere (pronounced, Miss-tear). The French have built a Mystere business jet distributed in the United States by Pan American under the name of Falcon Fan Jet.
The pattern, which we have been flying for the past several years, has had little change, therefore, the emphasis is on the flyer as well as the aircraft. Our stunt design trend in models has been running off in two directions: semi-scale and modern looking aircraft, I feel the Mystere will qualify in the latter. In laying out the Mystere, I wanted one of the larger type of stunt ships. In addition, the larger stunt ships, on 70-foot lines, have more space to turn in and aircraft this size are usually slower thus, if you haven't flown for a while, it doesn't take as many flights to get back in the groove as with the smaller aircraft.
A Merco 94 with muffler was selected for power and gives a nice even quiet run. The muffler was decided on after viewing one on a Fox-powered Nobler (oz6212) late last year and it seemed to go around in silence. On an airplane the size of Mystere, with 70-foot lines running along quietly, the scene is quite impressive. This is one thing we need when flying: impression points along with everything else. By the way, the fellow who was flying the Nobler is now flying a Fox 59-powered Mystere.
Construction: The largest, most important, time consuming item, next to the cowl, is the wing. In building the wing, make sure you have a flat (big) surface. I frame the wing upside down, this tends to eliminate any tendency to get a wing with a droop look. Cut all ribs from 3/32in" balsa, wing spars are 1/2in, planking is 1/16in..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
