Swinger II (oz9459)
About this Plan
Swinger 2. Radio control pattern model.
Quote: "QUITE recently, Terry Cooper and I have made modifications which we consider are a worthwhile improvement to the flying performance of the Swinger. Appropriately, this has been labelled the Mk II version.
No doubt you have read the previous feature on the Mk I Swinger in the November 1968 issue of RM, and you will see that this design formed part of a development to find a model that would do the present FAI schedule. If you have followed the results of the competitions during the past season, you will undoubtedly agree the design has something to offer.
Having studied various aspects of the model, it was decided that no major changes were required. You will appreciate that, whilst changing the design to suit one manoeuvre, the effect could be detrimental to another; it's all a matter of compromise.
Referring to the plan, you will see that the fuselage has a leaner appearance; this has been achieved by raising the chord line 1/2in and consequently entailed removing 1/2in from the depth of the entire length of the fuselage. This has had the effect of improving the roll manoeuvres - the model now rotates on a more axial plane and consequently requires less up and down correction. This modification has also had the effect of lightening the rear end and maintaining the favoured forward CG position.
Additionally we threw in a bit more nose moment, 1/2in to be exact. This appears in front of the LE wing fixing bulkhead. It gives the model a rather more of a pointer effect - and we also found the inside and outside loops were improved..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
