Jet Ace (oz9396)
About this Plan
Jet Ace. Unorthodox Jetex sport model with diamond wing configuration. For Jetex 50 power.
Quote: "The unorthodox wing configuration employed by 'Jet Ace' was dreamed up by British aerodynamicist Norman Hall-Warren way back in 1926. Several advantages are claimed for the layout, the ones most useful model-wise being the high degree of resistance to spinning and the great rigidity imparted by the triangulated wing structure.
The spin-proof characteristic derives from the combination of sweep forward and sweep back, which causes the boundary layer to move outwards along the leading plane, around the tip, and inwards along the rear plane, thus scouring the turbulence away from the large area efficient wing tips.
There is also a pronounced slot effect between front and rear planes at their outer regions. Thus, there are two powerful deterrents to tip-stalling, which is one of the main causes of spin.
The short control surface moment arm about the CG makes the turning radius very small and therefore the airplane recovers very quickly from any upset.
Commence making the model by tracing the fuselage, wing and fin outlines onto sheet balsa..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
