About this Plan

Tri-Tri. Radio control thermal soarer model.

Quote: "Four successive winns make this THE thermal soarer to build for 1970...
A list of desirable design parameters was compiled and this went as follows:
1. Independent control of rudder and elevator, preferably with proportional gear. The reason for this requirement is that some difficulty was encountered flying on the single channel system in that, because of slow response, the applied signal was often cancelled in the belief that it had not triggered the actuator correctly. The result of this was the model not obtaining the necessary command until too late - hence long distance flights. Don't get me wrong here, I think this was mostly operator trouble and, in fact, I have seen some very good rudder-only thermal soaring (notably that done by Neil Webb and George Bushell) - it's just that propo rudder and elevator make flying so much easier!
2. A 7-9oz. per sq. ft. wing loading using approximately 750 sq. ins. wing area, this being the largest size of model considered practical for transport and construction.
3. Shortish moment arm, to reduce effects of mass concentration..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
