About this Plan

RA 200. Radio control slope soarer model.

Quote: "An interesting 74 in span low-wing slope soarer with that 'power model' look. RA 200 by Robin Andrew.

HAVING long been interested in producing slope soarers that look something like powered aircraft, I have built and flown quite a number of these - readers may remember seeing photographs of my Tri-Star, Phantom and DH.108 in years gone by. However, I still felt the need for a satisfying aerobatic performance - not really in keeping with the aforementioned types - so I started to dress up acrobatic soarers. The RA-200 is styled after the SA-200 racer and makes a more stable model with a scale-like appearance in the air while retaining the aerobatic properties - keeping them up its sleeve, as it were.

Construction. Fuselage. Cut out the basic sides from medium-hard x 36 in sheet, and use a contact adhesive, such as Evo-Stik, to bond the 1mm ply doublers in place. Saw the 1/2 in sheet plates, grooving them to take the wing dowels, as shown on the side view. Secure in position with white glue. Make up the noseblock from hard balsa and, when all is dry, pull in the tail end, securing with 5 minute epoxy, and likewise pull in the nose of the fuselage to the noseblock, using the same adhesive.

Next fit the 3/4 in triangular fillet and the 1/4 sq rear longerons, then add the 1/8 sheet, cross-grain pieces, plus the rear 1/4 in sheet cross-grain pieces. Now cut the top formers, fit, and plank the rear fuselage decking to the tail as shown, adding the bottom 1/8 in cross-grain pieces..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
