About this Plan

Sport A-Go-Go. Radio control sport aerobatic model.

THE Sport-A-Go-Go was designed with two things in mind. One, an effort was made to construct a plane small enough to be easily transported, while the second requirement was for a plane capable of the full AMA stunt pattern. This meant that the plane would have to carry a full load of multi-channel radio control equipment.

The first rough sketches were made late in 1963. The plane was constructed during the latter part of 1964. Due to the coming contest season, this project was set aside in favor of finishing a cou-ple of contest ships.

This past summer the equipment was installed and the plane made ready for its first test flight. Power was a Super-tigre 23 It/C. Equipment was a proto-type of the new Controlairc Digital Pro-portional System. Even though the plane was small, with only a 3" x 9" space for the receiver and servos, no problems were encountered in fitting the equipment into the fuselage.

The first flight showed that the plane needed more power and slightly less .control surface movement. l then in-stalled an OS Max 30 RiC and reduced the aileron and elevator movement. The next flight the plane flew slightly to the left under full power, but was straight
in the glide. I added about 2 degrees right thrust to the engine. This proved about right. The plane flies very well and has proven that a large plane is not really needed to fly the AMA pattern.

Even though I still prefer a slightly larger plane for contest work, the Sport-A-Go-Go provides all that I desire in a sport ship. The plane is easy to build, compact, and maneuverable. Because of its maneuverability I call it the Sport-A-Go-Go which, I understand, is French for Sport A Plenty.

The plans show an ST 23 R/C. If built light with lighter radio equipment the plane will fly with this engine. I prefer the 30 which makes it a hotter ship. The technical specifications are as follows:

Wing Span — 51 inches
Wing Area — 520 square inches
Length — 39-1/2 inches overall
Weight — 3-1/2 to 4 pounds
Power — O.S. Max 30 R/C

No construction details are included with this article, since the plans are self-explanatory for the more experienced builder. For the newcomer to multi, I have only one word - Don't! Good luck and good flying."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
