Swedish Massage (oz9032)
About this Plan
Swedish Massage. 2 channel RC slope soaring model. Designed as a 'suitcase' model, packs away for easy transport.

Here's a cute little number designed as a 'go anywhere' model for those of you who feel semi-clothed without a transmitter or model in your hand. 'Take-apart-ability' was the main design theme and it's certainly been satisfied!. My Mk.I version accompanied me, the wife, and two offspring to Scandinavia perched on the rear parcel shelf of our car without the usual chorus of complaints. (Which is more than can be said for the 6ft span one-piece wing job I tried to sneak in!) Least those whose minds operate at a lower level should think otherwise, that's where the name derived from.
Inspiration for the design actually came via a fellow club member who turned up one day at a local site with a real back-pocket sized glider and asked me to test fly it. Having assured myself that two servos were actually inside, and working, I gave the model a heave and away it went. Perfect! I was hooked on the concept right away and got the sketch pad out im-mediately on my return home. Enough of the preliminary drivel, let's set to and build one. It won't cost an arm and a leg and it's all very rapid.
Fuselage. Start by cutting out the sides from 1/32 in ply, not forgetting to give them both a thorough rub down with a hot towel and birch twigs - oops, sorry, make that fine grade sandpaper. This will remove the mould wax and make for a good bond with the inner balsa sides. Stop for a second now and convince yourself which side is left and which is right. Mark out next the respective balsa sides and cut out from them the area shown on the plan to permit elevator crank movement. Glue the ply sides onto the balsa sheet using a flexible adhesive such as Copydex and then trim the balsa to approximate
size.
Pin both sides together now and trim with sandpaper to finish up with two identi-cal components. Leave them joined and drill a 1/8 in hole to accept the main tailplane support or pivot rod. Drill a similar pilot hole to locate the centre of the slot for the secondary AMT support rod. While the drill is out and in use, drill 1/4 in and 1/16 in holes for the wing support rods. (This technique should ensure that everything finishes up nice and square on the completed fuselage.)
Fabricate the three formers from ply! balsa laminates, not forgetting the holes in F2 and F3 far servo leads and control runs respectively. While these are setting, the two sides can be separated and the remaining bit of work prior to assembly completed. The inner balsa sides need planing off towards the rudder post to give a ta-pered section with a total thickness of 1/16 in for each side..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
