About this Plan

Wetwun. Control line floatplane trainer for 1.5cc engines. Can be built either as monoplane or biplane.

Quote: "Make this amphibious control line trainer designed by Jim and Dave Leddy.

Wetwun is one of a series of models designed to encourage younger modellers to try control line flying, and enjoy the results.

The original idea came from 'Brother Dave'. What we need is a biplane with floats, said the ideas man, who then thought he was going back to his vintage control-line models. He was wrong! Wetwun finally emerged as a one or two wing float plane, with either open or closed cockpit powered by a 1.5 cc diesel. The prototypes used the PAW 1.49 and an old AM 15.

Wing: Build one or two, the choice is yours. Cut the spar 1/2 in x 1/8 in and notch 1/4 in deep to accept the 1/16 ribs. The spar, lower trailing edge and tips are pinned directly onto the plan. Locate and glue all the ribs and when dry, glue in leading edge and upper trailing edge. Epoxy in the ply bellcrank mount on the lower wing only and cover centre-section with 1/4 in sheet balsa. When dry, remove from the board and sand to shape. The only difference between the two wings is that the lower wing has the ply plate, the upper has two centre ribs.

Rudder Fin and Tailplane: Are all cut from 3/16 balsa sheet. The two elevators are joined with 14 swg wire and commercial Radio Control hinges were used on the prototypes. Sand to shape.

Fuselage: Cut the lower 1/4 in balsa sheet and glue onto this the engine bearers and formers F1 and F2 with the fuel tank in between. With the upper 1/4in. sheet glued on top of this box, you have the unit around which the fuselage is built. Now add the fuselage sides, doublers and formers F3 and F4 and join together at the rear. The tailplane and rear top decking is glued on, together with the top decking and side panels. Whilst this is drying, make up the float strut units and secure to the ply plates with glue and thread. These strut units are glued inside the fuselage to formers F2 and F3. The lower wing bellcrank and push-rod can now be fitted..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
