Hi Mary, Steve, I looked up Paul Mantz and found a rather interesting, though tragic, ending story: wikipedia.org/...Paul_Mantz and www.youtube.com. For the alcoholic part of this, maybe the Wikipedia entry is probably the fairer one. And, of course, thanks for your work.

The assembly diagrams create the wrong impression that the fuselage has a hexagonal cross-section. The fuselage side view is way to tall.

Do you have evidence that the fuselage doesn't have a hexagonal cross section ? The Paul Mantz Junior uses a similar construction technique and that does have a hexagonal cross section.

Ok, I'll rephrase : "that it's a fairly symmetrical hexagon." which cannot be, given the ratio of fuselage width:height as per plan.

So, RL Miller who drew the plans made the bulkheads in the isometrics looked more "hexagonal" than they really were. Not really a problem, the isos are only there to illustrate the construction method. The bigger problem is that there is no printwood drawing for the bulkheads or wing ribs. The height and width of the bulkheads can be measured off the plan and the top and bottom dimensions can be determined by drawing each bulkhead to suit.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
