About this Plan

Ghost Rider 50 R.E.M. (Rudder, Elevator, Motor). Radio control sport model.

Also later kitted by Micro Mold.

Quote: "Although the original Ghost Rider 50 was designed for 'Galloping Ghost' pulse proportional equipment, it has now been modified for the more sophisticated proportional control systems. This design has been developed over a number of models with the aim of producing a model that is reasonably easy to fly, acrobatic, simple to build and with pleasing appearance.

It is of course impossible to 'guarantee' successful flying for a builder of this or any other model. Providing, however, the Ghost Rider 50 is built precisely to the plan and instructions and the radio equipment functions correctly, success will only be limited by the ability of the flyer.

The Ghost Rider 50 is not recommended as a first radio model, it flies a little too fast for that, but can be considered as an intermediate training model for Radio Control flyers. It is certainly not a difficult aircraft to fly and very easy to build, but there are more stable and slower flying radio models such as the Tyro Major for the true beginner to 'cut his teeth on'..."

Update 2/8/2023: Added build log, thanks to Nick Ward.

Quote: "Hi Steve and Mary, please find attached the build log I wrote when constructing a DB Ghostrider 50 during the 2020 Covid lockdown - apologies for not sending it earlier - it's fairly comprehensive, so feel free to use it as a downloadable supplement if it's worthy.

This model has now logged well over 200 flights and continues to be used as a general purpose sport model. I've had to replace one servo which had become rather slow, but apart from this the airframe is holding up well.

I completed my MFNZ Advanced Wings (I think the equivalent of the BMFA B cert.) using the Ghostrider - it has plenty of aerobatic ability for me and is reasonably compact to fit in the car fully assembled. When it finally gives up the ghost (pardon the pun...) I'll probably replace it with a DB Skyrider - same plane, just bigger and reputedly even better!

Thanks again for all the work you do keeping this archive alive and continually growing. Best regards,
Nick Ward"

Update 28/4/2025: Added kit instructions (from the Micro Mold kit), thanks to SimonRogers.

Hi Steve and Mary, Just sending you some photos of my recently completed Ghost Rider [main pic, 006, 007]. This is a David Boddington design from around the 60s I think. Anyway it flew very well. I have converted it to electric power to which it is very suitable, being quite lightweight. Keep up the good work, with the plans it is a fantastic archive for us plan builders! Best regards,

Hi Mary and Steve, apologies, should have added these pictures when I sent you the Ghost Rider 50 build log to add to the plan page, feel free to add them [pics 009-012]. Best regards,

Hi, Steve & Mary, Please find attached a photo of the box for the DB [Micro Mold] Ghostrider kit + a scan of the instruction sheet from same kit.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
