About this Plan

Alexander Schleicher K 8B. Radio control scale sailplane model. 2.75m wingspan. Scale is 1/6.

Quote: "Mary, see here the K8B of Svenson. The glider I built in 1974, still in good condition after more than 40 years [model photo]. After a lot of recovery work, I have the plan back OK. Today scanning to a pdf. It would be nice to see the K8B of Svenson on OUTER ZONE. The glider flies super good. He is also very easy to build. The second photo is my second K8B that I built in 2012 [more pics 006]. This is covered with Japanese paper. Kind regards, Julien"

Update 11/03/2017 : Added PDF file showing hand-traced formers, thanks to Julien.

Hi Steve and Mary, Here the ribs of the K8B, today to scan to pdf. now the plan even more complete. I made this rib printing in 1973. Thanks for OUTERZONE, Regards Julien

Update 23/3/2023: Added CAD plan in DXF format (at enlarged scale), thanks to Gernot.

Quote: "Dear Mary and Steve, First, I want to thank you for your great work you’re doing on the Outerzone page. Your page is an indispensable part of my hobby! Nearly every evening I have a look what’s new on Outerzone, or simply browse through this marvellous collection of plans.

Since I retired from work and living my life as a pensioner, one of my favorite pastime besides building model airplanes is transforming some Outerzone plans into CAD format. Because I built my own CNC mill to help me build complex models, I also dealt with CAD programs, but only in 2D. I prefer to use the QCad software which is to my opinion is very cheap, easy to learn and to use.

I hesitated a long time to send you one of my transformed plans. Now I dare to do so. Feel free to use it or to discard it. But maybe it can be useful for some people. Because I like old wooden gliders, I choose the Schleicher K 8b and transformed the Svenson plan (oz8407) and enlarged the size to 4 m wingspan.

I have to admit, that I haven't actually built the real model, so people who want to build the model based on my plan may perhaps have to change some items. Take it as an enhancement to the original plan if you like. Best regards from Germany. Take care and stay healthy! Gernot"

Hi - here's another K8B by Svenson [more pics 007]. Got it from a good friend. New cockpit made, that was not there. Again covered with Oracover.

A new K8 in the sky [pics 008, 009]. Hi Oz, I did a Svenson K8 from your plans, modified with a HQ3.5-14 to 12 profile, ailerons , electric air-brakes and tow hook, and scaled tail surfaces. It's a marvelous machine which fly almost alone. The weight is 2400 g , wooden construction except nose cowl in fiberglass, the covering is done with silk.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
