About this Plan
Senator. Free flight gas competition model.
Quote: "THIS model, unlike many others, is not the product THIS several years' scientific designing. Instead, it is the product of several years' active contest flying. This new edition was built just after the new rules were released. You will note that the model contains many features that the new rules made practical. These are: large wing area (490 square inches), low wing loading, high lift elevator, small cross-section, two-class flying (class B - Forster 29 or K&B 29, and class C - Forster 305 or K&B 32), and a quickly removable landing gear. Although the landing gear was designed with the thought of removing it if need be, it was never taken off at any contest. However, the removal of the landing gear does make transportation much easier.
The brief history of this model has been remarkable. It established a class B national record at the Phila-delphia Flying Circus, winning a Benrus Sky Chief watch; second in class C at Millville, New Jersey, with two flights; and second in class B at the New York Mirror Flying Fair, with only one flight. I also took a first place in class B at York, Pennsylvania, with the Senator, which enabled me to enter the Plymouth meet at Detroit. All this was climaxed by winning first place in class B Senior at the 2nd International at Detroit, Michigan. This performance can be matched by your model if the plans, instructions, and testing procedure are carefully followed.
Before beginning construction remember that a model, like a chain, is no better than its weakest link. Use a good grade of wood, warp-free. When you install ignition, make sure all joints are well soldered. Your coil should be either a new one or one in good condition, as you will not be able to get at it later. (Incidentally, when I last priced sandpaper, it was only 15c for 20 sheets! - Hint.)
Begin construction by laying down the crutch, using the size wood shown. If the motor is not a Forster, or one with similar width, use different sized motor mount wood to compensate for the difference in width. When mounting the motor, be sure to cement the mounting nuts firmly, as they are not accessible after the fuselage is planked. While this is drying, construct the pylon frame, which consists of two uprights and two cross members. Cement formers in their proper places on the crutch, referring to the plans, and let dry. Then install the top and bottom longerons. When dry, cut away the top longeron..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
