Stinger (oz8345)
About this Plan
Stinger. Control line combat and stunt model. For .19 - .25 power.
Quote: "An eager, fast, aggressive stunter. Nothing hard to build, responsive, well stressed for rigors of flight. Stinger, by Paul Del Gatto.
Just about the time that the rules were being formulated for the Air Youth State Championships (AYSC), we were putting the finishing touches on a new combat job. We have since tagged it by name as the 'Stinger.'
Designed primarily for competitive Hying with engines in the .25 displace-ment bracket, the mode] also lends itself equally well, for use as a stunt trainer, with a .19 engine. A single or double gear arrangement may be installed.
Model builders having a .29 or .35 engine about, will find this combat model rugged enough to take it. But heed this: From the .25 to .35 bracket, this model really moves. Maneuvers are fast and tight, and it really calls for snap accuracy in judgement, on the part of the flyer. In the hands of an experienced combat flyer it would be hard to beat at any contest.
The design is of similar proportions to some previously successful designs. As always though, no matter how successful, when one deliberates and analyzes the merits of a model, there always seems to be several areas which could stand further improvement.
The wing aspect ratio is still considerably higher than the average combat model, however it was reduced slightly as compared to a previous design. Also wing spars have been added, and to offset this added weight, a two piece hollowed wing leading edge was utilized. instead of a solid leading edge. This combination resulted in a much sturdier wing of comparable weight..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
