About this Plan

Wun Wing Gon. Asymmetrical control line sport model.

Quote: "In designing our Wun Wing Gon we not only wanted to prove that such a ship with only one wing panel and stab could fly, but that it would compare favorably to the average sport control-line model. To do this we had to keep in mind the fundamental inherent characteristics essential to the success of an asymmetrical design - or for that matter any design at all.

In a conventional design, we do not concern ourselves with the fact that the centers of lift and drag must lie close to or on the vertical plane through the center of thrust, as that is automatically accounted for by the symmetrical plan of the model. In an asymmetrical design, however, it is this fundamental characteristic which must be considered carefully if the design is to be a success.

The fact that this was accomplished with this model is born out by the manner in which the model handles in flight.

The take-off is quite natural and, once air-borne, the ship's response to control move-ments is rapid and not in the least erratic. Frankly, we had expected to have some difficulty the first time out flying, due to excessive yawing of the model outward because of the slightly off-center locations of the lift and drag forces. However, all that we noted was a slightly stronger pull on the lines than might be found on a conventional model of comparable size and power. Since this was the case, we did not find it at all necessary to re-trim, and chances are you won't either..."

Here are a couple of photos of Wun Wing Gon from your OZ 8313 plan [more pics 005-007]. This one built as a "mirror image " to fly the more normal anti clockwise direction. I find flying clockwise with the model up the right way needs so much concentration to avoid incorrect control inputs that it is not enjoyable. Powered by a Mk 1 AM 15.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
