About this Plan

Pelago. Radio control sport model. 64in span, for .49 to .61 power and 4 function radio.

Quote: "A really smooth sport job for the Sunday flier, this easy-to-build, easy-to-fly funster is for .49 to .61 power. Pelago, by Terry Melleney.

BEING primarily concerned with scale models, when it comes to the allocation of workshop time a general-purpose practice model for me has to be a complete contrast - economical, simple and quick to build. Pelago answered these needs for me, with the added bonus, it turned out, of being very easy and smooth to fly. It is docile enough to be used as a trainer yet, with a .61 up front and the taps open, it will provide very pleasurable flying for any experienced pilot, with its smooth responsiveness.

If, therefore, you want to get something airborne with the minimum of fuss and bother - but still not end up with something that looks as though it were made of railway sleepers - then Pelago is the model for you. Don't be decieved by the open framework of the rear fuselage - the model is tough and rugged (though nylon rather than 'instant' film covering is recommended) and will serve you well through all weathers and many gallons of fuel!

CONSTRUCTION: Fuselage. Build one side on the plan, in the normal way, and then build the second side on top of the first to ensure that both are identical. Remove the finished sides from the plan and separate them with a thin knife or razor-blade. Cut out the 1/16 ply doublers and drill the holes for the wing fixing dowels. Glue the doublers on to the outside of the framework sides. Next make the ply bulkheads, and fix the anchor nuts to the engine bulkhead to suit the metal engine mount you are using. Assemble the fuselage sides together by gluing in the bulkheads and securing with three panel pins, through the doublers into the engine bulkhead, on each side.

Now pull the rear fuselage sides together and glue and clamp together while drying. The remaining spacers and formers may now be fitted, not forgetting the in. balsa fillets that bring the longerons up to the same level as the ply side doublers. The completed fuselage is covered with nylon and clear-doped before fixing the tail assembly and cockpit canopy..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
