Mistral (oz8188)
About this Plan
Mistral. Free flight A1 towline glider model. Plan shows a choice of two airfoil sections for the wing, flat-bottomed and undercambered.
Quote: "A glider with excellent performance, thought to be built by a beginner. Superb plan, very detailed and full of instructions. It will be impossible not to get a perfectly finished model if following them to the letter. Once finished and trimmed, her flight will amaze yoiu. We got a better than 5 minutes flight in the second launch of the prototype; this wil give you an idea of the ease with which she can be trimmed. We advise you to include a dethermaliser as per the instructions when building the B model. Diffreences between the A and B models lie in the wing profile, the first having a flat-bottomed airfoil (advisable for beginners) while model B has a NACA 6409."
Hi Mary and Steve, Today I'm sending you the plan for the Modelhob Mistral, a 1100 mm (42 1/3 in) free flight A1 glider which appeared in 1968, when that company was named Altair.
The Mistral is kind of a legendary model in Spain: ask anyone who started modelling in the seventies and eighties in this country and chances are this little glider was their first model. Yes it was mine too! I remember building both versions of the Mistral. The beginners' one with a flat-bottomed airfoil flew like a dream, but the competition one was a bitter disappointment I must confess, as my first attempt at building an undercambered wing ended up in a big corkscrew... Along with the plan, I have attached a few pics , a model description from the original 1968 Altair catalogue (both in the Spanish original and translated) and the model info which appeared in the 1976 and 1979 Modelhob catalogues. Best regards, alcalaino

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
