About this Plan

Handley Page Sayer Monoplane HP22. A 33 inch wingspan indoor scale model for Cox TD .010 and two function micro RC.

Quote: "David Boddington invites you to build this little indoor or outdoor scale model.

FOR THIS MODEL you have a choice of two sizes, the one shown here or to increase the dimension by 8% ie ask the photo print shop to take copies at 108%. The original model was flown at the smaller size and proved, with a weight of 7ozs to have ample power. Longitudinal stability was marginal but the flight control was sufficient to carry out a flight in Olympia and won the Handley Page Association trophy. The contest flight was carried out on the Thursday before the MEE and the second 108%. model was built and put on display by the following Thursday.

By careful selection of wood, a revised tailplane (larger but lighter) and some judicious lightening holes in the formers and the sheet structure above the wings there was no weight increase and the 7 oz figure was maintained. I put a 1/16 sheet floor below the engine and put a hole in the lower section of F3 so that the battery, a 125mAh pack, could project to F2.

Whether you build the smaller or larger version you must keep the radio as far forward as possible - and the rear end as light as possible. I used the Hitec Focus micro servos and receiver (27mgs) and a Cox TD 010 engine, they all performed excellently indoors and out. The 125mAh battery was no problem as weight was needed in the nose, no switch was fitted, the battery being plugged direct into the receiver and then the wings secured..."

    ScaleType: This (oz8137) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handley_Page_H.P.22
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
