T-Bird (oz8126)
About this Plan
T-Bird. Radio control flying wing sport design. For .40 - .46 power.
Quote: "For Sport or Fun-Flys This Slick .40-.46 Powered Wing is Loaded With Fun and Performance. T-Bird by Peter Peverly.
When Bill Evans stopped by our flying field to demonstrate several of his flying wing designs, I was fascinated by the stability, tracking, and lack of stall of his planes. Shortly after his visit, several club members, me among them, built several flying wings.
Although exhibiting good flying character-istics, after competing in a few club fun-flys, we felt that the glide ratio and landing characteristics should be improved in order to take advantage of the climb and glide (30 second engine run) and spot landing events.
The T-Bird is the result of the redesign efforts. You will notice that by extending the center section of the wing in order to place the elevator farther aft results in a significant increase in total area. The glide ratio is greatly improved and substantially increases glide time. Another change that was made was to the landing gear. Initially, standard trike gear was used. This was changed to a taildragger configuration. Spot landings were noticeably improved. In fact, the last two fun-flys were won by a member flying a T-Bird! Several club members are now flying them and they thoroughly enjoy the plan.
Construction is very straightforward, easy, and fast, After all, you're just building a wing! Let's get started..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
