I built this model a few years ago with a couple of modifications to the tail surfaces, going with built-up rather than the sheet units [see more pics 003]. Saved having to add nose ballast. It's a great flier - successful right off the board! OZ is PRICELESS!

Hi Mary and Steve, Please find attached the product of my girlfriend Tímea’s first attempt at building a flying model, the Frog Heron (oz782). She had a little help with the awkward bits and a bit of mentoring but it’s all her own work. Modifications from the plan are as follows:
Built up tail surfaces, a few extra gussets to support the tissue around the cabin, the addition of a pilot, internally retained wheels, planking as opposed to block for the upper cowl and a 6.5” carved balsa propeller. Covering is Sam’s Superlite tissue finished with cellulose dope and the all up weight without rubber or ballast is 26.15g (0.92oz), with the centre of gravity being about spot-on as built.
She’s very proud of it as I am of her!

Hi Pete, very pretty model! The colour trim looks very carefully applied, this is certain indication of the quality of construction, congratulations all around. And don't wind her too much.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
