Air Trails Sportster (oz78)
About this Plan
Air Trails Sportster. FF model, gas power. Series Fifty Air Trails Sportster.
The original Ben Shereshaw Air Trails Sportster (oz9197) was published in 1939. This here is a later plan, showing RC installation.
"Series 50 Old Timer" kit from Cal Aero-Models. It seems this same kit was also later sold by Midway Models.
Note: This is not a full scale plan.

Just completed construction of this aircraft. When I get brave enough I will go out to the flight line. Used a Cal Aero Model kit that I have had for a number of years. I decided to go electric. A few photos are attached [more pics 005-008].Jerry - 09/04/2018
Greetings, Does anyone have a complete set of fuselage former templates for the Sportster (OZ78)? Cheers,
David

First of all my compliments for considering a plan from the earliest archaeological layers of the Outerzone :)
I don't think you need former templates. Looking at the plan and side views, all sections are rectangular so it will be an easy task of measuring lengths and widths from the plan itself. That's what I would do.
The exception is the firewall, which is clearly defined in the plan, and the upper former inside the cabin which is a development of the upper part of the firewall. All the other fuselage 'curved bits' are simple soft balsa fillings, sanded into shape.
If you need any further help, "ask and ye shall receive" :)

This kit plan seems to be a pretty faithful copy of the original design. So I'd suggest refer to the original 1939 drawings at Air Trails Sportster (oz9197) which include all ribs and formers.

Miguel, The dorsal nose section from the cabin forward is curved and larger than the firewall and the ventral surface of the fuselage from the firewall aft of the cabin is also curved (per the plans of the original design).
Thanks for the suggestion Steve - will use both plans to make my kit.

Bushwacked by the original version! Perhaps the missing parts were woodprint and this was not recorded?

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
