About this Plan

Waco Model D Pursuit. Rubber scale model biplane.

Quote: "A Model of the Waco 'D' Pursuit, by Paul Lindberg.

THE Waco Model S2H-D two-place pursuit plane is another outstanding ship, of which we are very proud to present to the Model Builders.

Our laboratory has taken a great deal of time in producing an authentic flying scale model, which we are sure will give you many enjoyable hours while constructing and flying it. During test flights speed and stability were very notable features. Flights averaged between two and three hundred feet.

Study the plan carefully and note the many improved features in model airplane construction, such as; fool-proof shock absorber, false ribs, adjustable controls with aluminum hinges and all details to make it a finished model.

In building the model, all dimensions can be quickly and accurately determined by placing a ruler on the part to be measured. The plan is printed full size. If you wish a larger model, multiply this measurement by the amount of increase. The color scheme can be obtained from the cover of this issue.

Construction of Fuselage: The fuselage sides are built from 1/16 inch square balsa. The longerons, verticals, diagonal braces, etc are held in place until securely cemented by inserting straight pins on either side of strips wherever needed.

After the two sides are completed, they are pinned to the top of the plan in such a manner that the top longerons face down and so that the sides form right angles with the surface of the plan. The cross-members are now cemented in their proper locations. Cut formers from 1/32 inch sheet balsa and cement in their respective positions as shown on the plan.

The balsa ring which fits on front of fuselage, is carved from a solid block or built up from inch sheet balsa. After this has been properly shaped and sanded cement to front end of fuselage.

The 1/32 x 1/16 inch stringers should now be cemented over the formers on fuselage. Please note that the stringers are cemented to outer edges of formers so that a smooth covering job may be obtained. This eliminates all projecting formers. A stiff grade of paper is used for cockpit cowling between formers two and three..."

    This is a scale plan, but ScaleType is set as NotFound.

    This happens when we can't find a relevant Wikipedia page to link to. Usually because the type in question is uncommon.

    Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
