About this Plan

Found Centennial. Scale model for radio control. Simple sports scale model for .75cc - 1cc engines and 2-3 function radio.

Quote: "Few full size prototypes lend them-selves for R/C modelling as well as the Found Model 100 Centennial, it is an ideal subject for the scale beginner. Simple sports scale model for .75cc - 1cc (0.049 - .06cu.ins.) engines and 2 or 3 function radio. Found Centennial, by David Boddington.

THE FOUND 'CENTENNIAL' originated in Canada in 1969 and was designed as a utility aeroplane for operation in underdeveloped areas for light freight, aerial survey, or agricultural applications. With a wing span of 39 ft and a 290 hp engine, the Centennial was no small aeroplane and it was unusual in having a fully cantilevered wing, ie no wing struts. In fact, it is an ideal prototype for a simple small scale model, the fuselage is wide enough to fit any of the modern R/C equipment in with ease and the fuselage is a simple box section. The undercarriage is reproduced by the standard double cranked pianowire legs with a fairing between, this is quite adequate for small models. Dihedral on the outboard wing panels has been increased over the scale angle, build in a little washout (say 3°) on the outer panels to reduce the risk of tip stalling.

Build the wings first as you will have to cut up the plan for the fuselage - the formers and tailplanes should also be marked out before the plan is cut. Because of the space limitations it is not possible to show the full width of the wing centre section, the right hand side is shown in a chain dotted line, you will have to mark out the left side to similar dimensions.

Construction could not be much simpler and any modeller who has built a couple of conventional training models should be able to cope quite easily. A Mills .75 cc engine was used on the original model, if you want to fit a bulkhead mounted .049 engine you will have to reposition Former 3 and dispense with the bearers, remember to incorporate a few degrees of down thrust.

The prototype was finished in white with red trim and an anti-glare black panel in front of the cabin. Do make certain that the balance point is well forward, start with the forward panel marked on the drawing before attempting moving back - the Centennial has a short wing/tailplane couple. Elevator movement of 1/4 inch up and down and rudder of 3/8 inch each way should suffice.

The prototype model weighed 1 lb 10 oz - with a doped nylon wing and tissue covered fuselage and tail surface. Ensure that the Mills .75cc is running flat-out, it is marginal power for the Centennial in windy weather but very scale like in calm conditions."

    ScaleType: This (oz7553) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Found_Centennial_100
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
