About this Plan
Cosmo Clipper. Free flight gas model.
Quote: "Here's the Cosmo Clipper from '52 FM. Cleaned, scaled and stitched it together. Thanks to David Terrell for supplying the article."
Quote: "Built in a variety of sizes, this flyer has taken home the bacon from 1/2 A to Class C. Cosmo Clipper, by Sid November.
This versatile design has taken home the contest hardware for every class in which it has flown. At the same time, it is extremely stable for sport flying and may be flown safely with a few slight adjustments. It is an excellent design for engines of all displacements, including the small English diesels. It may also be flown as a PAA-Load job.
Before building your 1/2A version of the Cosmo Clipper, study the plans carefully and enlarge to twice their present size.
Fuselage: You will notice that the body is box-style, with triangular formers on top. Build both sides at one time. After they are dry, separate and join with cross pieces. Make sure all joints are solidly cemented and squared off. (In building the PAA-Load version, make the fuselage wide enough to take the dummy).
Next, place the largest and the smallest triangular formers in position with the top square stringer. Build up the section from the square to the triangular formers as illustrated in the plan; then add the other formers.
Sew or clamp the landing gear to the firewall. When mounting the motor, set it back as far as possible, to keep the nose short. Also, make sure the line of thrust coincides with the one drawn on the plan. The cowling should be shaped to suit the particular engine.
Now, place the stabilizer rest in posi-tion. This is very important for consistent flying. When set in place correctly, it will prevent the tail surfaces from shifting..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
