Piper Cub Cruiser J5 (oz6751)
About this Plan
Piper Cub Cruiser Model J5. Scale model for rubber power. Wingspan 27-19/32 in. Kit ref: R7.
Note this scan has some issues, there are some small sections that show signs of slippage, and some paper creases.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Update 29/01/2020: Added an alternate plan scan as a supplement file, thanks to Harald. Note this plan differs in some minor details, and is dated 1944, with kit ref: L7.
Quote: "Hello Mary, Steve, here I send you another plan of the Piper Cruiser. Yes, you've already 2 of them, but this is may be the very earliest of them. And interesting from a historical point of view. All the best for you,
Harald"
Note both of these plans have no printwood. But it may be checking these against Piper Cub Cruiser J5 (oz3963) which is dated later but does include printwood.
Update 21/03/2021: Added cardstock scan, thanks to OleBill.
Quote: "Greetings... I had the good fortune to find and purchase a very old Comet kit yesterday, the kit No. L7, of the Cub J-5. The copyright on the plans is dated 1944. The kit is 100% complete, and is in amazing condition for its age. That said, the kit contains items not found in later kits of this same model. I am attaching a scan of a cardstock part that I've never before seen posted online. Perhaps you can use this as an attachment to other Comet J-5 Cub postings. Thanks,"
Supplementary file notes
Alternate scan (kit L7, 1944).

ScaleType: This (oz6751) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piper_J-5
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

Hello this is a great site, and Thanks so much.

Piper goes to war...here's my version of Comet's Piper Cub Cruiser (oz6751), in U.S. Army livery, requisitioned for war [pics 008-010]. Seems Piper's fine light aircraft filled the role of observation plane perfectly. They were ferried to various theaters of the conflict during WW2 aboard U.S. Coast Guard-manned armed cargo vessels. Upon arrival at their destination transfer was effected via a makeshift takeoff ramp (no landings!).
This model was constructed from the later Comet plan Kit 3406...which for whatever reason I can't seem to bring up now from OuterZone using Adobe. This kit was built more than 15 years ago after sitting on the shelf for many more years than that...and is still with me. She's a good flyer with a 27" wingspan. :)
Thanks, Steve and Mary for all you do for so many of us.

Double stars underwing and big letters probably meant "Don't shoot, I'm on your side", or stronger words to that effect :) Fine model, Neal, thank you.

Another beauty, Neal.

Neal, now it would be great if you tackle prototypes that have never flown or little... Give the product a second chance ;-)

Thank you, Gentlemen...you are too kind. I appreciate your comments. In fact, I especially enjoy sharing our interest in these historic model plans...and all subsequent modeling efforts that follow. When I constructed this Piper model I was only trying to clear some of my "warehouse" of kits accumulated over the years...which I'll never get to the finale. :) I stray into scratch-building far too often. I was looking at the time for a subject that was simple, historic...and a good flyer. The Piper fit the bill perfectly.
Olivier, I'm scattered all over the OuterZone website with submissions...here's something rare and exotic for you to peruse...Northrop YC-125 Raider (oz13341)...which was part of my on-going friendly discussion with Steve over what constitutes a plan. He finally relented...for which I'm grateful.

Neal, I know...I went to see...a hell of a lot of achievements ;-)
I am always amazed by the care of the seasoned modelers; whether in wood or plastic. A goldsmith's precision...;-)

Aww, we were spared the interesting bits, so I offer this classic instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Bm0RIs-VJU

Oh no, Miguel...nothing like that...Steve's Captain of this ship and a very reasonable one, too. If he has a problem with a submission, he goes so far as to explain his position and even recommend a course of action to alter it! Besides...I wouldn't put my money on John Wayne (the actor) against Victor Andrew de Bier Everleigh McLaglen, a British professional boxer-turned-Hollywood actor...not for a second. One has to be sensible about these things. :)
Neal - 10/07/2022
Haha, too late, the damage is done! Your reputation is in tatters now, even if we've forgotten what the point was but that's how it's supposed to work :))
May John Ford be in a good place and have lots of celluloid at his hand, for all the great films he left us, both comic and tragic. The Grapes of Wrath should be compulsory viewing.
Miguel - 11/07/2022
You're correct, Miguel...I have no idea what you're talking about. Recommend if you're in a spin...just put your nose down...kick rudder one side or the other...and see if things won't right themselves...lest you run out of ideas, airspeed, and altitude...all at the same time.
Neal - 12/07/2022
Sometimes I go wheel-spinning when in joke mode. My apologies.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
