Advanced Trainer II 40 (oz6657)
About this Plan
Advanced Trainer II 40. Radio control advanced trainer model. Wingspan 55 in, wing area 622 sq in, for 40 engine.
This is a modern redrawn plan in vector format.
Note: the 58-1/2 in RCM Advanced Trainer II (oz17009) appeared in RCM Oct 2003. This here is a later redrawn plan by Joel Cimmino, drawn up for himself in CAD, with some minor detail differences and a total wingspan of 55 in, for a 40 engine. Joel wanted to build a 55 inch model with a 40 engine in it. So he did. The photos here show his finished model [main pic, 003, 004].
This plan is not the 'original' RCM Advanced Trainer II. This plan is a later, redrawn version. Yes, it has the title "Advanced Trainer II" but only because that's what Joel called it. But this is not the RCM original.
Have removed the RCM article from this listing, as the differences between this plan and the RCM article caused some confusion. The RCM article was mismatched with this plan. Not least, in wingspan.
Update 19/9/2026: We now have a copy of the original RCM plan. So we now have that, along with the Oct 2003 RCM article, see: RCM Advanced Trainer II (oz17009).

I would like to know if you could tell me the list of materials to build RCM Advanced Trainer II. Plan 1327.ThomasA - 07/03/2018
I Have Built the Advanced Trainer II from the plans [pic 005]. It flies very well.

Another version of one of the world's all time great airplanes. Just about everybody has either built one or flown one. It don't get no better'n this. Most were built from the Bridi kit, with the holes in the ribs for alignment. You'll have to find your own way. I flew Bill Norman's RCM in Pat Hollock's back yard. Next flight, Bill did a few outside loops, last one a bit low. Too low. He drug off one aileron in the grass, continued on for the rest of the loop and landed with one aileron. It's that kind of airplane. Would make an ideal electric, with the long nose, plenty of room for a battery. You'll need about 800 watts.

I noticed the PDF is for a 40 size model while the original plan was 60 size. Original wingspan was 67" the cad file is 55. The original length was 51-1/4" the cad file is 48". I flly a similar Bridi design "4 Seaons 40" developed for Phil Krafts "Kraftkit" line. Flies great.

This is a later, redrawn plan, as noted in the text. The original we have at RCM Trainer (oz5306) but that one is 58-1/2 in wingspan. That's the version published in RCM in Jan 1972. It does get complex though, deciding which version is the 'original' one.

Have removed the RCM article and re-written this page. To try and eliminate the confusion caused by the mismatched article posting. This here plan is not the original RCM plan.

Ok, breaking news, we now have a scan of the original RCM plan coming along. Should be up in 4 or 5 days.
SteveWMD - 14/09/2026
Ok, scan of the original RCM plan is up now, see RCM Advanced Trainer II (oz17009)

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
