About this Plan

Gasket. Free flight CO2 model. For MJ-140 twin cylinder motor.

Quote: "Twin CO2 powered Free Flight for fun and sport. Fine machine uses Brown twin with scratch-built addition of twin fuel tanks. Gaskett, by Steve Buso.

The Gaskett is a Sport Free Flight design with several special and unique features. It was designed and built specifically for the new Brown Jr MJ-140 twin cylinder CO2 motor. Also, 'non-stock' twin airborne tanks were installed to extend the length of the motor run.

The simple construction, utilizing 1/32 in sheet balsa throughout, keeps building time to a minimum, while at the same time making the plane rugged and lightweight. There is nothing worse than watching a tissue-covered structure sag and lose strength during cold weather flying sessions. The Gaskett eliminates such problems.

Depending on what kind of glue you use, building time can be held to under two hours. To accomplish this I used, and heartily recommend, a Satellite City product aptly named Hot Stuff. It is an instant-bonding super adhesive that is specially formulated for porous materials like balsa wood. Through capillary action it literally welds two objects together. But because of these unusual properties, please heed the danger warning on the label! A little drop goes a long way. As a matter of fact, the less you use the better, as it cures in the absence of air. It will not form a glue fillet, so make sure all glue joints are tight fitting.

Construction. The primary consideration before construction begins is the selection of wood. Select a couple of flat, straight-grained 1/32 in sheets, preferably 4 or 6 in wide. If at all possible avoid badly warped sheets, as they will most likely come back to haunt you in the shape of a warped wing or fuselage.

For strictly outdoor, Sunday flying the weight of the wood is not critical. For indoor use, select light but not flimsy sheets. Remember, because no tissue covering is needed, the balsa structure alone must withstand an occasional collision. Light, quarter grain balsa is ideally suited... "

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
