About this Plan
Nieuport 28. Free flight scale model for .045 power.
Quote: "A Flying Scale model for the sport flyer and contest fan of one of the most beautiful biplanes of the World War I era. Nieuport 28 by Robert G Gable.
The Nieuport 28 has been a favorite among modellers for a long time. Many have claimed this World War I fighter to be the most beautiful biplane ever designed.
Our model is a 1-1/4 in to 1 ft version of the 28. Although we did not intend the original model to be used for competition in Flying Scale contests, the ship could easily qualify for these events by adding details such as movable control surfaces, wires and such. Photos and drawings of the full-scale Nieuport 28 are easily obtainable for any builder who may like to incorporate such detail in his model.
Before starting actual construction we suggest you scale up the plans for the wings, tail surfaces and fuselage crutch. All bulkheads, ribs and surface outlines are shown full-size on Plate 2 so you will have no problem drawing up any of these curved parts.
Wings: Build these two structures by pinning down the entire outline of each. Next, cement the ribs, cut from 1/16 in sheet balsa, in place. Note that double ribs are used at the strut locations. Now, add the top spars and allow this much of the structures to dry thoroughly before proceeding. When dry, block each wing tip 1-1/2 in up and add the bottom spars. Both the top and bottom wings have the same dihedral angle. Finally, add the leading edge sheet covering.
Tail Surfaces: The stabilizer and rudder are built in the same manner as the wings. Sand the stabilizer ribs to an airfoil section after they have dried in place. The rudder is flat and it has no airfoil. The small trim tab on the rudder, along with the movable portions of the stabilizer, are attached with soft aluminum hinges.
Fuselage: Pin the 1/8 x 3/16 crutch pieces over a full-size plan. Cut all bulkheads from the materials indicated on the plan and cement the top halves of these in their proper location on the crutch then set aside. After you are certain the structure is dry, add the bottom half of all the formers in the same manner. The lower wing is now cemented in position. Make sure it is at 0° incidence. The 1/16 diameter wire landing gear is now sewed to bulkhead A and the leading edge of the wing. Use plenty of cement and thread for this operation..."

ScaleType: This (oz6519) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nieuport_28
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
