About this Plan

Hawker Fury. Rubber scale model.

Quote: "Hello Steve, here is the Hawker Fury by Keelbild. 'Keelbild' was a brand name owned by a prominent model shop in Newcastle in the 1930s, called - predictably enough - The Model Shop. It issued a number of very well designed scale aircraft kits (mostly by TR Kennedy), along with some Wakefield-type kits (designed by the shop's owner, CW Lutman), model boat kits and a lot of Keelbild-branded modelling paraphernalia (which turns up on eBay from time to time). Long after the production run of the kits had ended, the shop continued to sell plans of its most popular models by mail order: even in the 1970s it was possible to order their much-admired Hawker Demon plan, for instance (available on OZ). I have an example of the Demon kit and it is very much a premium product, albeit with rather heavy wood. The scale designs often feature a deep, lower balsa keel upon which all the formers are slotted. Stringers are added at the top and then alternately to each side. This scheme apparently helps avoid the dreaded banana-shaped fuselage. The keel shape is delineated on the Fury plan, but one has to look closely for it as it isn't immediately obvious. Sadly, I don't have the kit of the Hawker Fury, so no printwood is included, but all formers are shown on the plan with the exception of the last four. It's quite possible that the formers for the Aeromodels or Comet Hawker Fury (both on OZ) could be adapted to the Keelbild keel, with a little adjustment."

    ScaleType: This (oz6454) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker_Fury
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
