    ScaleType: This (oz644) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_A6M_Zero
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Here’s my rendition of Sterling Models Kit P4, Zero (oz644)…peanut scale 13” wingspan [pics 011-014]. The Battles of Coral Sea and Midway to a great degree eliminated carrier operations as a usable tactic for the IJN, necessitating operations from land-based airstrips. This in turn resulted in the removal of those beautiful white aircraft finishes and substitution with a version of standard camouflage. As can be imagined, the constraints of field operations, time, materials, etc. rapidly brought about expedient overall dress. That’s my excuse for the appearance of my model. Thank you Steve and Mary for a wonderful website.

"...excuse for the appearance of my model".? Far from it, Mr. Green, your model looks as pristine as the waterlilies of Lake Biwa! Some airplanes of the Imperial Navy began as a very pale haze grey (not white) which took a transparent top coat which took a noticeable yellow tinge with time under the sun. As you rightly say, at some point they became green, but possibly for production reasons the primer coat was omitted and so after a short while the paintwork started flaking off, especially where subjected to boots, tools, etc. In fact no Japanese airplane must have even left the factory as pretty and clean as your model!

This bigger brother grew out of its smaller sibling [pic 015] ...enlarged from 13" ws to 32" ws...rc 3 channel with .15 engine...same overall paint scheme. Photograph shot 35 years ago. As always, a plan is a tool with seemingly limitless possibilities. Thank you again and again Steve and Mary, for all the inspiration.

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
