Update 23/1/2026: Added article, thanks to Johann.

Quote (google-translated): "Electric or Four-Stroke Big Wing. When I started model flying again last year after a long break, I was looking for a suitable trainer. Considering the short period of good weather still expected, I didn't want to sacrifice much time and effort to be able to fly. After inspecting several ready-made models, I still hadn't found anything to fly after two weeks and was ready to give up.

Then one Sunday, I found myself in the basement of my clubmate Martin Preuß, looking rather glum, and couldn't calm down at the sheer number of aircraft that were there. Long story short: after a few minutes, I was the proud owner of a Big Wing (see also RC Models 5/81), which left Martin's basement in exchange for a Bell 47G helicopter.

There it was, beautiful, large, neatly built, but with an electric motor. I'm not an electric enthusiast myself. So I grabbed the saw and promptly sawed off the nose of my beautiful plane in front of the firewall. A motor mount was quickly found, and so the first stage of the build was already nearing completion. I installed an OS engine with a 3.5cc displacement. The first test flights were carried out with this engine. Since I hadn't made any other modifications besides the engine installation, the flight performance surprised us all the more. The model rolled forward, was airborne after a takeoff run of just under 10 meters, and then climbed smoothly and steeply into the sky.

Now it was my turn. I took over the transmitter, and lo and behold, the bird actually flew perfectly, even for a beginner. After some getting used to it, I was able to fly straight and maintain altitude. However, I had some difficulties flying against the wind. Even with the motor throttled back, the model continued to climb or seemed to hover. The angle of incidence was still unchanged, just like with electric flight. All in all..."

Hi Steve, this plan is from the long defunct German RC Modelle Magazine... It looks like a slightly smaller Telemaster Model. A nice and simple electric flyer... Greetings Regards,

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
