Isle Of Thanet Cup Winner. Rubber competition model. Oringinally published in 1939, this was a reprint in Dec 1996 Aeromodeller, Vintage Corner.

Quote: "There are a number of interesting models described in old issues of this magazine that were never drawn up in full-size. Not for them the 'X-List' treatment, thus unless present day vintage modellers stumble on these (mostly half-size) drawings and are prepared to enlarge them to full-size themselves, the designs seldom see the light of day.

One such is the 24-inch span 'Isle of Thanet Cup Winner' designed by W Crutcher that was described in the August 1939 Aeromodeller. This model has a peculiar humpbacked fuselage caused, it appears, by the designer retaining about six inches of the fuselage top outline parallel with the thrustline to enable the wing to be moved over this distance without altering its incidence, and it is the sudden sweep down of the upper longcrons that creates the 'hump'.

The plan is reproduced this month and can he easily photocopied to full-size, no building instructions being necessary.The material sizes used are shown on the drawing, mainly 3/32 inch square balsa. except for trailing edges, note the inverted 3/16 inch 'T' section mainspar.

No propeller details are given other than to state that a medium pitch balsa propeller with a decent free-wheel device was used. Power was eight strands of 1/8 inch rubber 24 inches long and this motor had 'secured flights up to eight minutes out-of-sight'. Note the incorrect use of the word 'Wakefield' in the plan title!"
