About this Plan

Hell's Angel. Free flight power model.

Quote: "Ron Warring's 40 inch span free flight power model from 1946. Scanned from a plan from the collection of the late Dave Campbell. This appears to be a kit plan but I've had a quick look at a few of the mags from this era and could not locate any references either to the kit, or to Precision Aircraft Model Division. There is no wing rib on the plan, but a pencilled note in the margin of the original said RAFF 60. Perhaps a FF historian can supply the full story."

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Update 31/3/2024: Added formers (inc ribs), thanks to Bill Newson.

Quote: "Hi, just browsing your site again and got to Hells Angel oz6085 and noticed you didn't have the copies of the sticky sheets which are supplied in the Ron Prentice kit. See 2 docs attached. In the kit they are printed on sticky paper to be applied to wood for cutting out. Regards,"

There's already a CO2 version on the Outerzone that shows the airfoil. See CO2 Hells Angel (oz3224)

Hi Steve: If the note on the plan says this should have a 'RAFF 60' wing airfoil, I would guess that actually means R.A.F. 6, which is a flat bottom airfoil similar to a Ramrod airfoil. It's easy to find on Google images. There's no such airfoil as a RAFF 60, but R.A.F. airfoils were widely used in the old-timer era. Regards,

Hi Steve, Hell's Angel is basically a re-working of Louis' Garami's lovely Strato-Streak (plans on Outerzone) and may have employed the same airfoil shape. The foil on the CO2 plan does look similar, apart from that very sharp entry. Regards,

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
