Tiny Bit. Tailess radio control sport model.

How small can you get! Further tailless fun from SMA founder member Dereck Woodward.

Remember the Little Bit (oz5763)? She was built in a frantic four days of work before the first ASP Small Models Day. A 28 inch span, box body, 'Stik-y' fin and a performance envelope for the strong at heart.

Now, some say large models fly better (than what?). So, why not a 'large scale' model of 'Little Bit? How many 3/4 full-size models do know of? Enter the Chipping-Norton Ministry of Strange Things!

Hence there's lots of 'we' in this article, as 'Tiny Bit' is a committee effort. Shane Harding did the interesting (building her) and the frightening (test fling) parts and drew the plan. Yours truly got roped in for having a camera with close-up capability, a word processor and being responsible for the idea in the first place!

Board meeting. Servos: the more 'micro' the better. The prototypes use Fleet micros. Receiver: the smallest you can get. A Fleet micro is pretty small - lose the case if brave. The old MB micro Rxs work - can we have them back in pruduction please?

Transmitter mixing is essential. Nicads: as small as you like. You can always fast recharge while the crowd is recovering! A Cox TeeDee .020 makes her move like many want to, but she'll fly on a Cox Pee Wee if built really light. A Tee Dee 010 Go on - try it. We await the first AE micro-diesel powered version with interest.

First requirement - light wood. Hard or heavy not allowed! Build time - trivial. Shane has built a new one because it was quicker than looking for a lost one! Go on - make a 'Tiny Bit Kit'. Won't take long arid the 'bits' will be there when needed...

Hi Outerzone, I have built and flown the "Tiny Bit" which I converted to electric power [main pic]. The build was fiddly in parts and I would recommend going to 1/16 ribs; everything else is easy. Flying was good with a small drone motor on 2S it really speeds along. Once trimmed it flies really well. Thanks again for such a great resource which I really enjoy a lot. Regards,

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
