About this Plan
Oreon. 57in free flight glider by Thor Molbach. From Model Aircraft September 1947.
Quote: "THIS unusual looking model has already proved its ability as a contest winner in Norwegian competitions, with pertinent flights of over three minutes on cold foggy days with no wind, using a line of 100 metres.The model is designed primarily for good towline starts and thermal soaring.
The Boom: Cut 4 strips of 3/32 x 1/2 in balsa, and 4 lengths of 5/32 x 5/32 in birch or spruce, to the length of the boom, making sure that these are all perfectly straight. Place one of the lengths of balsa on a flat surface, and then carefully cement the two hardwood lengths on to the balsa strip to form a 'U' section. Repeat this with another balsa strip and two lengths of hard-wood and allow to set hard.
Now place the two U sections on edge with the channels facing each other, and cap with 3/32 x i 1/2 in balsa strip on to the hardwood strips only, allow to set. Now repeat on remaining side. The boom may now be sandpapered to a circular cross section. This will leave a hollow tube of exceptional strength.
Make sure that the front of the boom is finished off flat, to butt on to No.6 former. Then slot the boom vertically between the hardwood longerom for 5-1/2 in, ready to fit the pod keel into.
The Pod: Carefully fret out of 1/8 in plywood the keel, around which the pod is built. Drill a 3/16 in hole in front of No.5 former position to take a 3/16 in dowel for wing fixing.
The keel may now be cemented into the slot already prepared in the boom, making sure that the wing platform support is correctly rigged in relation to the boom, as this is where the angle of incidence is built into the model. Formers Nos. 1 to 7 may now be cut out of 3/32 balsa sheet and cemented on to the keel..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
