About this Plan
Powerhouse 33. Free flight contest model for CO2 power. Wing area 150sq in, weight 4-1/2oz. The Berkeley kit plan for the Powerhouse.
Quote: "Instructions for Building and Flying.
The 'Powerhouse' design is nationally famous, having won the New England, Dixie, Middle Atlantic, and Western Championships as well as having broken the National AMA Gas Model Record for endurance four times.
The 'CO2 Powerhouse' is designed for power by the CO2 Engine, manufactured by Herkimer Tool and Model Works. It can be officially flown in rubber powered model contests either as a Class 'C' Model (100 to 150 sq in) or as a Class 'D' Model (150 to 300 sq in).
The construction of the model will require a flat workboard about 24 in long; a model knife; and sandpaper. For the most part, the plans and sketches show the method of construction. These building instructions mainly give the sequence of operations and construction helps.
Study the plan carefully before beginning the actual construction. A number of small gussets are used in this model to prevent warping. Do not fail to install them.
Fuselage. Layout the two main 'Crutch' members on the top view of the fuselage setting the 1/8 x 3/16 cross members in place. Hold these pieces in position while drying by using straight pins.along the outside of the main members.
Cut out the fuselage formers and insert them on the "Crutch". Add the keel along the top of the. fuselage. Fill in between the bottom stringers with 1/16 sheet balsa as shown. Add the 1/8 sheet balsa wing mounts and the front balsa wing mount block. Note that the drawings of the side view of the fuselage at the wing mount are not exact scale because of the dihedral angle. The 'V' angle of the wing mount is shown only in the sketch. Therefore, do not scale the parts off the side view. When the entire fuselage is completed, go over all joints with an extra coat of cement. Note that small gussets are used to reinforce the plywood motor bulkhead, F-1.
Wing: The wing is laid out in four seprate panels by pinning the spars in position for each panel and inserting the respective ribs, with the exception of ribs W and W-2. Next add the leading edge and trailing edge, which must be first sanded to a 'V' taper. Add the gussets at the trailing edge. Likewise, sand and install the tip pieces. Remove the panels from the plan and join together with gusset-plates W-8 and W-9. Install ribs W and W-2. Sand the leading edge round..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
