Dwarf (oz5399)
About this Plan
Dwarf. Free flight model for diesel power. This is the original plan for the Dwarf design, as published in 1949, for diesel power. For the later CO2 version, see Dwarf (oz2363).
Although it's not mentioned in the article, the Dwarf is esentially a reduced-size version of the classic 1947 Keil Kraft Slicker (oz8877) design, originally by Bill Dean.
Quote: "Build this 22 in span Free Flight from the full size plans given in the centre pages. Dwarf, by Dave Hilliard.
THE Dwarf is just about as small as you can get with a free flight diesel model. The original was powered with the KO .2 cc, but on the latest version (see plans), the more compact Kalper .32 has been substituted. However, either of these diesels may be used with success and its purely a personal preference which one you decide to install.
To save time and eliminate the difficulty of scaling up, full size plans are given on the next two pages. We suggest that you remove this centre spread from the book and pin it to your building board. Construction is straightforward and the model should take only an evening or two to complete. A sheet of greaseproof paper will prevent the parts sticking to the plans. Trace the full size parts and stick the patterns to balsa sheet using Grip-Fix.
Wings. Wing construction is conventional, and both panels should be built flat on the plans. Trace the right wing half, turn over and attach to the drawing to give the other wing panel. Begin by cutting the 1/8 square spars to the correct length and tapering them from Rib 9 to 3/32 in at the tip. Cement two of the 'D' dihedral braces to one of the spars and pin down to the plan (left hand panel). Cut out the trailing edge and tips from 3/32 sheet and cement them together in position on the plan. Add the ribs, taking care to slope Rib 1 to allow for the dihedral angle. Follow with the 1/8 square leading edge and the remaining 'D' brace.
When quite dry, remove from the plan and pin down the right-hand spar to the other wing panel. Attach the completed half to the spar by means of the D braces - propping up to give 4 in dihedral under the right tip. When the cement has set, remove from the plan and finish off the leading and trailing edges to the indicated section.
Fuselage. Begin by cutting out the fuselage profile parts (F4 - F9) and the 1/16 sheet fin. Cement these parts together flat on the plan, using pins to hold in place. While this outline is drying, cut out the remaining fuselage pieces (F1 - F3 and F10). Fit the left hand former halves, then remove from the plan and add the former halves to the other side, followed by the eight square stringers..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
