September Warrior (oz5391)
About this Plan
September Warrior. 30in span control line combat model, for 2.5 to 3.5cc power, designed by B.R. Bumstead and published in Model Aircraft in November 1963. Twin boom layout of approximately 225 square inch area. Original powered by Rivers Silver Streak.
Quote: "BR Bumstead's highly successful combat design for 2.3 - 3.5 cc motors
No claims are made for originality in this design; the basic layout being taken from an original concept by Riley Wooten. However, modifications to detail and overall size have evolved September Warrior as a new design - inasmuch as any design can be called 'new' nowadays.
The important characteristics of the model should be noted so that if modifications must be made, then they should not interfere with:
(a) the blunt, rounded LE for manoeuvrability without stalling or mushing.
(b) the surface-sparless wing for a laminar flow of air through the majority of the boundary layer around the wing - giving the minimum of induced drag.
(c) the tips, which being curved as much as simple construction permits, have the minimum of profile drag.
(d) the flying tail, which, besides being conveniently detachable, requires only 20 deg. of movement each way, thus further enhancing non-mushing qualities, whilst executing suddenly applied, tight manoeuvres.
The construction is simple but must be really accurate, especially the fuselage. This point cannot be over emphasised. If built exactly as specified, the fuselage assembly will always be a strong, rigid, fixture to the wing - a feature important for eliminating all vibration and contributing to an all important smooth engine run. Thus, whilst building this model, at all times bear in mind three important factors, namely, accuracy, lightness and the knowledge that one really good model is worth more (and takes less time to build) than as many warped, underdoped - yet heavy - and poorly finished models, that one cares to mention.
Construction The LE should be built from three laminations of 1/4 in sheet, the outer laminations being hard balsa with soft balsa in between. Evostick or PVA the laminations together; in the latter case securely holding the laminations with pins and rubber bands whilst setting and, in both cases, ensure that the assembly is dead square and straight. When set, mark out the rib positions and cut slots..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
