Rudder Bird (oz5233)
About this Plan
Rudder Bird. Radio control sports model. Sterling Kit # FS-15. 52in wingspan, for .09 to .19 engines.
Quote: "FS-15 Rudder Bird, as requested by RB in the Outerzone 'Wanted' section. 52" span shoulder-wing rudder only or intermediate advanced R/C trainer, for .09-.19 engines. Easily could be built as is with 3-channel R/E/T operation (the stab trailing edge is standard trailing edge stock), and with a bit of ingenuity and reduced dihedral, ailerons could be added. This is one I always wanted but never built; I now have a complete kit, and all I have to do is find the time to copy and build it. I saw one fly back when with a Fox .15 and rudder only; the pilot was an expert, and made it do things today's younger pilots would only be able to do with a full four channels! (A friend of mine, a former AMA District VIII president who flew combat as a kid in contests that included such notables as Riley Wooten of Voodoo and Demon fame, occasionally flies a rudder only Sr. Kadet the same way.)"

Steve, Here is a picture [see more pics 003] for your Rudder Bird page. A long time sentimental favorite of mine since my Dad and I started out with one of these. A fine flying plane. Dad just passed away in late 2013. This plane has now been converted to electric power and flies just as well as ever. REM control. This is model #2, the first one was finished in the late 1960's and had that same OS .19 in it. #2 seen here was built in the mid or late '70's.Dave - 11/01/2014

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
