Twinny (oz5180)
About this Plan
Svenson Twinny. Radio control sport biplane model. Kit # 30465.
Quote: "Hi Steve, I received that plan about 25 years ago, when the stuff box of an unknown club member in our work shop was disbanded. After interrupting the hobby for many years, I started with the Twinny again. It's a very nice flying Biplane with gentle habits. The Twinny is electrified with an AXI 2820/10 which maybe is a little bit over the top, half-throttle is perfect for spacious biplane-cruising. Wing span is 100cm, formers are complete (except the template for the landing gear) ... Regards and thumbs up for that great archive."

Quote: "Introduction: TWINNY is a sport-model which can be used as an acrobatic trainer. should be equipped with a four-channel radio and powered by a .15 cu in engine (abt 2.5 cc). Construction is simple for those modelers who have built one or two radio-controlled models before, and flying is quite easy. Needless to say, it is advisable to read all instructions thoroughly before starting actual construction of the model.
Building is carried out in the sequence of the numbers shown on the drawings. In order to avoid any confusion, transfer the appropriate numbers on the die-cut parts with a ball-pen before you lift there parts from the die-cut sheet. To help in separating the parts from the cie-cut Sheets, use a sharp modeling knife. Carefully trim any burrs from the die-cut parts before assembling.
Since the wings are being built directly onto the plans, it would be wise to protect the plans with a sheet of cellophane paper or with the back-up sheet from any iron-on covering film. This will prevent the glue from sticking to the plans.
May we advise you to use white glue, ie an aliphatic resin. Part of the airframe which are likely to be submitted to greater stresses, such as the firewall which supports the engine mount, landing-gear platform, cabane-struts, hinges ans so forth should be assembled with an epoxy glue. Where large glueing areas are concerned, one can use some contact-glue.
Building the upper wing: The top wing does not have any dihedral, it can therefore be built flat on the building board. Pin down on the plan the bottom trailing edge sheeting W1 (balsa 1.5 X 48 mm). In the same way, pin down the bottom leading edge sheeting W2. Glue and pin down the 4 mm square bottom Spar W3. Cut to length and pin down the bottom central sheeting W4 (balsa 1.5 X 65 mm). Cut to length and lay on the building board the W5 bottom capestrips (balsa 1.5 X 5 mm).
Glue into place the center-section webbings W6 (1 mm die-cut plywood). Glue into place the 12 W7 wing-ribs (balsa 1.5 mm die-cut). Glue into place the 3 W8 wing-ribs (die-cut 1.5 mm balsa). Glue into place top-spar W9 (balsa 4 mm square). Glue into place the 4 mm sq balsa leading edge spar W10 Glue into place and secure with pins the top trailing edge W11 (1.5 mm X 48 mm balsa).
Lift and glue the bottom leading edge sheeting W2 against all wing-ribs and the leading edge spar. Support the curved-up sheeting with small balsa wedges so as to maintain contact between the sheeting and the wing-ribs. Use cloth-pins to attach the bottom sheeting to the leading edge spar...."

Hello Steve and Mary, I helped a clubfriend a couple of months ago with cleaning out his hangar a bit and put some stuff for sale. In the items that were "permitted to go" I found an original Svenson Twinny, partially built and covered, I commented a bit that this one should not be offered for sale, but he should keep it. Instead, he gave it to me. What a nice present! So it needed some patchwork, new landing gear, RC, and a power setup. I chose a light 4s setup, kavan 3536-1000, with 9x6 prop, 40A esc. Today it had its first roll-out, I hope to maiden it as soon as the weather permits [pics 010-012]. Please find some photos attached! Best regards from Belgium,

Dear Sirs, I like your website - and all the drawings of airplanes, I dreamed of as a child. In the late 70s I built an SVENSON Twinny It is still alive and waiting to be converted to modern rc-gear and electric-power.
Attached you`ll find the scanned manual in different languages and two pics of my plane [015, 016]. It was equipped with an "WEBRA GloStar 3,5ccm" and MULTIPLEX rc-gear. It flew perfect from snow - 'countless' touch-and-gos on a sunny winterday - amazing moments.
Greetings from Germany-Stuttgart,

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
