About this Plan

Impuls. Radio control sport model. Wingspan 150cm. For 1.5 - 2.5cc diesel engines.

Update 19/01/2018: Added parts drawing thanks to Dries and Histone. Note this is *not to scale* and serves only as a rough sketch of the parts involved. Best to check everything (twice) before cutting.

Built in 1963 when I lived in Germany [model photo & more pics 003, 004]. Single Channel Rudder. Thank you for showing the plan.

Great photos - I especially like the one with the child. Who is she?

My daughter, now in her fifties. The model went out of range and was going up without power prior to a thunderstorm at Wildenrath in Germany. A German farmer sent me a postcard saying it had made a perfect landing in his field some 35 kms away. I built ever larger model aircraft until eventually I realised that if I built them just a bit bigger I could get inside them and fly them much more safely with a pilot's licence. Once I retired I took flying lessons and got my licence. I eventually flew the same daughter around Lancashire and Cumbria, flying from a farm strip in Lancashire. Best wishes and thanks again for the plan and the memories.

Brilliant story! I shall have to see if I can persuade Steve to build us a full size plane ... :)

I started building the Impuls, here are a few photos [more pics 005, 006]. I intend to use the Veco 19 engine shown on the photos and 3 channel radio. Found that the scaling of the pdf is 8% too small.

Hi - I made a few photos of flight testing this new build, the 1962 Impuls [more pics 007, 008]. I intended a Veco engine but that was not as expected, so a 1970s OS Max 20 was used. I can say this airplane flies very well, stable and very slow if desired.

Hi - I made this one as my first build around 1969. It flew well but on the 5e flight, one of the 3 battery wires broke and she started circling down. Crashed in one meter of free space between a farm and a class house and was completely destroyed. I had made a parachute hatch in the bottom that worked quite well. Good glider too. Thanks for the plan!

Hello Steve and Mary. First of all, my best wishes for 2018! In this thread (Dutch) http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/threads/de-impuls-evert-kreulen-nostalgie.96461/ user "Histone" posted a scan of the formers. While they're not the right scale it shows clearly the wingspar with the correct dihedral. The dihedral is not indicated on the plan though but this picture tells a lot.

Adding some pictures of the Impulse by Evert Kreulen [main pic, 009-011].

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
