About this Plan

Zeek. Free flight gas pylon model. For class A or B power. Wing area 397 sq in.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Note supplement alternate plan file includes full build instructions.

Quote: "GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: Read all instructions and study the plans carefully before starting construction. Special care must be used to install the rudder straight, the stabilizer and wing 'square' and the engine thrust line as shown on the plans. Improper alignment of such assemblies can only result in a poor flying model. Use wax paper over the plans to prevent the glue from sticking to the plans. Re-cement all joints for extra strength. The use of a suitable engine timer or fuel shut off is highly recommended to prevent losing the model.

Using the 'pop-up' tail or dethermalizer as shown on the plans will help you to get your model back if it should get into a rising air current. It is absolutely not necessary to use a dethermalizer to have a fine flying model and it can be omitted if you desire If you do not wish to use the dethermalizer simply omit the stabill4e key, aluminum tube and all 1/8 dowel at the rear of the fuselage and cement the stabilizer in place on the stabilizer piatform during final assembly.

Remove all parts from the die-cut sheets carefully. We have left certain places on each part not cut all the way through so that the parts will not fall out and become lost or broken. Use a razor blade or model knife to cut through the places on each part that are not cut completely through.

FUSELAGE: Decide on how you are going to mount your particular make of engine and drill firewall mounting holes and landing gear mount holes (if any) before gluing firewall in place. A tin 'nut plate' (with nuts soldered in place) glued to the firewall will make the engine easy to install and remove. Use 'tin can' metal.

It is important that the distance from the propeller to the rear of the fuselage is not shortened, so mount engine accordingly.

The fuselage is built upside down as shown on the plan. First pin the top of the fuselage in place Starting with the firewall, and working rearward, cement each bulkhead in place, using the small alignment triangle to make sure rich bulkhead is properly aligned The alignment triangle must be used on each bulkhead and on the same side of each bulkhead as shown on the plans. Pin each bulkhead in place to hold it until dry. See Detail 1.

Cement each side in place against the top of the fuselage and each bulkhead. Remove the fuselage from the plans and install the fuel tank and timer, if used. Cemert Aluminum Tube and 1/2 in dowel in place at tail as shown.

Cement bottom of fuselage in place. Build the Stabilizer Platform over the pattern. Note: the grain of the wood runs the short way. Cement stabilizer platform in place on the fuselage. Install the 143" dowel and the Dethermalizer Limit as shown.

Complete the engine installation, connect timer and engine shut-off, if used, then remove engine so the fuselage can be more easily covered. Lightly sandpaper the entire fuselage and brush a good coat of dope on the firewall and front of the fuselage. The fuselage is ready to cover.

WING AND STABILIZER: Build the center section, the right wing panel and the right wing tip on the plan as shown. Then turn the plan over and build the left wing panel and the left wing tip on the other side of the plan. If you desire you may rub the plan lightly with oil or lard which will cause the plan to become semi-transparent.

Start construction by using pins to hold the trailing edge and leading edges in place. Fit the tip outlines in place and cement the joints well. Cement all ribs except those ribs at the places where the dihedral breaks occur. Install dihedral as shown. Use pins to hold the wing in place while drying. Be careful to make the dihedral exactly as shown. Cement the ribs at the dihedral breaks at this time.

When the dihedral joints are thoroughly dry remove the wing from your work table and re-cement all joints. Using a model knife and sandpaper shape the wing tips and leading edge to a rounded streamlined shape and sand the whole wing lightly..."

Are there flying instructions available for the Zeek? e.g. Left or right power/glide directions.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
