Twin-Fin Terror (oz4879)
About this Plan
Twin Fin Terror. Simple indoor rubber model. Twin-boom pusher design.
Quote: "You'll liven up any club session with a duration contest; does 2 minutes! Twin Fin Terror, by Anthony D'Alessandro.
Here is a mite of a pusher designed to 4 put some enthusiasm into those dull club meetings you've been having lately. Light, soft wood was used for everything except motor stick, which is cut from medium-hard quarter-grained balsa. All parts were sanded before assembly to reduce weight and eliminate surface roughness. Check alignment while assembling. There is 1 in dihedral under each wingtip.
Propeller is carefully carved and sanded from block shown or from a machine-cut blank until it resembles a twisted piece of heavy paper. An eighth of an inch should be cut from each tip, making it possible to clear tail booms.
I gave ship added appearance by painting a washy solution of red dye and alcohol on it. I also striped wing and tail with black Jap tissue, using thin clear dope as adhesive, and painted a cockpit on motor stick.
Power was supplied on original model by a 10 in loop of 3/64 rubber. However, thickness of strands and length of loop can be varied to suit weight of ship and height of flying site. Use lubricant on rubber and mechanical winder of some sort. Remember to wind backwards.
Adjustments can be made by rudder tabs, rear part of stab, wingtips or addi-tion of small bit of clay to nose. My model turns to left under power and I warp down the trailing edge of the left wing.
Remember, lightness is prime requisite for good flights on this ship. Top times on the original averaged between 1 minute 30 seconds, and 2 minutes in a low-ceilinged gym. Although this may seem like exceptionally high time, with a little practice you'll find even the 'juniors' in your club can turn in some creditable performances with this little twin-fin-er. "

Steve, Last weekend, I built another model from one of the vintage plans on your site. I've attached a photo [see more pics 003] This is the Twin Fin Terror. I enlarged it to 16" span and will fly it outdoors. Your site is a great resource for these things and I visit it every day. Thank you for the great work.DavidWagner - 14/12/2013
Steve, I am going to enlarge this plan to fly outdoors, as a building block exercise. haven't had the urge till I saw the lines of this modest little thing. Will send pics later on,

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
