About this Plan
Jabberwocky. Control line team racer, for engines up to 2.5cc.
Quote: "June 1953. From the Suez Canal Zone. Class A team racing is by no means limited to the British Isles. From the Middle East, where AC1 Bill Hume was stationed whilst on National Service with the RAF at Fayid, we have news of team racing activity, and we present plans of one of their successful racers here. With due acknowledgment to Lewis Carroll, who said 'Beware the Jabberwock my son', Bill Hume calls his model the Jabberwocky.
It's a development from two earlier designs, one of them a biplane. and it is novel in that it has a twin-finned tailplane. Average speed with the ED 2.46 racer diesel is 65 mph, covering around 40 laps and using a 8.5 x 8 in pitch prop. Faster speeds of 75 mph or more have been obtained at a sacrifice of lappage, by fitting a 7 x 8 prop. A lot depends on the individual motor and tank arrangement; but it is obvious that this model is capable of keeping up with the best.
Construction begins with the wings, which are entirely sheet covered. First butt join two sheets side by side to give a full plan of the lower surface. Add the ribs, ply braces and bellcrank assembly, then cover the top surface after cham-fering the edges to get a good leading and, trailing edge join. Now make the tailpla.ne assembly with either 1/8 in dowel or 10g piano wire elevator joiner. If wire is used, it will be both stronger, and reduce the amount of tail ballast required to balance.
Start the fuselage by fixing the engine to the bearers, then adding the ply formers. Attach undercarriage and tank, then the remaining formers between the fuselage sides. Wing and tail go in now; connect the controls and add the top decking, after ballasting the tail to bring the CG in the right place. Cover the bottom, carve the cowling and the pilot. Fit both, hollowing out the cabin former for pilot vision..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
