I recently completed this model for electric RC and have begun flight testing. I originally built it from the Midwest kit many years ago as a free-flight ship. So far, I've had four successful flights, and I am trying to find the best CG. It balances just ahead of the recommended location on the plan with all gear installed.

Colour photos of his completed Sniffer model are thanks to SteveStaples. Quote: " Sniffer - built from Midwest plans with Cox PeeWee .020"

Hello Steve, I have some pics of a Golden Sniffer [enlarged version] I built back in the 80's [see more pics 004, 005]. It was powered by an OS40FS This proved to be the perfect power for this model. I built my own floats and successfully flew the plane off water. Regards,

My old flyin' buddy, Tom Barnes, built several of these in the early sixties and flew them free flight. It was designed originally for the first generation of low power 049 engines from the fifties, but Tom powered his with Holland Hornets, waaaaay too much power. He went thru several Hornets, which tended to break rods. They made like missiles going up, doing all kinds of maneuvers on the way. Once the engine quit, glide was good, with a little dutch roll tendency. Electric would be the way to go, with maybe a longer nose and slightly larger fin to eliminate the dutch roll...

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
