About this Plan

Chloe. Rubber contest model.

Quote: "Designed to the old 'Flight' Cup specifications, ie 144 sq in maximum wing area, 4 oz minimum airframe weight and 1 oz maximum rubber, this model makes quite a change from the innumerable ligtweights so popular for modern contest flying, where the tendency appears to be towards 4 oz of rubber in a 1 oz airframe. In spite of the specifications as regards power and weight the design style is by no means reminiscent of the 'birch and silk' types with a 'birdcage' undercarriage, and the version described won the 1946 Flight Cup contest.

Built strictly to plan this model is a steady performer which will fly consistently week after week and season after season. It is also capable of first-class contest performance and has a distinctly 'thermal-conscious' glide.

Fuselage: Two flat sides are built from 1/8 sq hard balsa (3/32 sq for a lighter version), the nose bay filled in with 1/16 sheet, and the insides of the top longerons bevelled at the rear to allow for the 'triangulation'. Cement the sides to the fuselage former and clip together the bevelled top longerons, while they are setting. Add the nose former and spacers, making sure that they are of equal length over the parallel portion where the wings fit. Cement the wing box in place and fill in with sheet as shown. The nose stringers can then be added..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
