I just finished building one of these for the grandson of John Kiker. John was one of the great pioneers of NASA. It was his insistence that the shuttle could be safely carried back to Florida on the back of a Boeing 747 that earned him stardom - he built a working r/c model of both airframes to demonstrate. He was also responsible for the designs of the recovery chute systems for the Gemini, Mercury and Apollo systems as well as the shuttle's drogue chutes. He passed away in 2005. The Chico that I built was purchased as a gift for John by his Grandson in the early 80s, but was never built. It will hang over John's great grandson's bed.

Hello Mary, here is a photo of my Chico, with a electric motor MP 3536-05, Lipo 3S2200 [more pics 008, 009]. Built in Winter 2009/10. You can use the photo for your page.

Hi, I have built a couple of models from Outerzone plans, and am currently in the middle of a PT-19. Thought you might like some pics of the Chico [pics 010-012] I built. Extremely fast in the air and gets the adrenalin going. I didn’t bother with the canopy and pilot, but still looks good I think. Many thanks for your site its great! Kind Regards,

Graupner Chico [pics 013, 014]. With an OS Max 20, 3.5ccm, this plane went pretty fast and was a lot of fun. I loved such models, small, fast and cheap. (ca 1972).

RBC Kits in The Netherlands is selling a CNC kit of the "Chica", which has striking resemblance with Graupner's Chico, but for electric drive.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
